Another beautifully packaged single from Finders
Keepers offshoot Battered Ornaments, tapping
into the same spirit of lost-in-someone's-attic
psychedelia that characterised previous releases.
The band occupy a more hard rocking trajectory
than prior instalments of the series, and that's no
bad thing. 'Storm Cloud' is characterised by all
the right production tweeks and echo-laden '60s
mixing desk vocals, but the drum sound is the
real star here, evoking a cross between Motown
beat crafting and lo-fi thirty-year-old private press
garage rock. 'October Fires' is a more bluesy affair
with slide guitar and bongos - quite odd on paper
but it's a great jumpy rock cut complete with an
authentically brash guitar tone.
Possibly the finest Battered Ornament 7" yet.
