█░ Japanese ex-pat Susumu Mukai) delivers this mighty album on ░█
█░ UK label XL (Basement Jaxx, Layo & Bushwacka, Prodigy, White ░█
█░ Stripes). With influences ranging from Prince, Art Of Noise, ░█
█░ Siouxsie & The Banshees, Miles Davis, David Bowie, The ░█
█░ Tornados, Joy Division, James White, Morricone and the ░█
█░ Cramps, then utilising an ingenious DIY ethic encompassing ░█
█░ both manmade and machine sounds plus of course the trusty ░█
█░ old four-track, Mukai has produced a vibrant and ░█
█░ unapologetic set of what could be best described as "rock ░█
█░ 'n' roll dance music". Slightly mad, utterly original, this ░█
█░ record is one of the smartest contemporary releases so far ░█
█░ in 2003, and belongs in the home of any Daft Punk or ░█
█░ Basement Jaxx fan. So good, it is going to take most ░█
█░ listeners the rest of the year before they realise just how ░█

█░ Something like slightly awkward, somewhat dissonant dance ░█
█░ music. Zongamin produces songs not only for the ░█
█░ dancefloor-burners but also the wallflower whiteboys to nod ░█
█░ their heads to. "Tarpit" is a bit as if some French house ░█
█░ group was stuck in, well, a tarpit. It's a mucky and ░█
█░ slowed-down version of Daft Punk, if you want to relate it ░█
█░ to someone with a bigger name. ░█
█░ On a vaguely side note, if you want the vinyl version of ░█
█░ this, Flesh Records put out a VLS some while back, but the ░█
█░ b-sides (tracks 2 + 3) seem to be newer. ░█
