Skyler brings forth his latest work on Next Dimension Music, called
Sunny Stories. This EP is a 4-track release that covers a wide
range with two originals from Skyler and two interpretations from
Andrew Chibale and Audio Noir. Skyler's two originals are "When The
Sun Comes Out" (deep house) and "Marina Sands" (progressive).
Andrew Chibale makes an impression with his house remix of "Marina
Sands", as does Audio Noir's tech house remix of the same track.
I love it when a producer refuses to stay at the same level and
steps up his production. It's safe to say that Skyler has done just
that with this EP. "When The Sun Comes Up" evokes the emotion when
you and your friends are driving to the after-party from a stellar
night of dancing at the club. The sun is coming up, but you only
catch glimpses because the city buildings keep blocking it out.
This track lays down a funky bassline that rolls along light piano
and keys. In my opinion, the BPM on this track is set a little fast
for deep house, but you could always use it toward the end of your
set for a strong finish. The original mix of "Marina Sands" has
that nice chunky bass that can keep a crowd glued to the floor for
some steady grooving. I liked the contrast brought by the sweeping
synths coupled with the staccato keys. Very nice!
Andrew Chibale's "Marina Sands" remix brings a more straightforward
house sound but stays true to the original. I really enjoyed his
version of the lead synth. He makes the sound stand out like
someone playing a solo. So cool! The percussion ceases at 6:09, so
give yourself plenty of time to transition before the track ends.
Audio Noir's remix takes a different approach, bringing some punch
to the track. I liked the gritty, filtered bass and the dubby vocal
stabs. I give kudos on the use of panning to mess with the senses
and add new depth to the track. This is the cherry on top of a
great dessert!
All in all, the Sunny Stories EP is a great add for anyone who
appreciates the many genres of house music. These are some great
tracks that will give great versatility whether you are playing an
opening, main, or closing set Or for that special moment while
you're driving to the after-party just as the sun starts to peek
through those skyscrapers.
