Composer-arranger-saxophonist Mats Ekl÷f left his mark on the saxophone
group Position Alpha (see their recordings on Dragon). Although his music
definitely does not come under the heading "easy listening", it is
absorbing in its effectivity of de-constructing music and then putting the
pieces back together again under different guises. This recording features
Mats together with his Octet, featuring: Thomas JΣderlund and Thomas
Gustafson, saxophones, Staffan Svensson, trumpet, Niclas Rydh, trombone,
Johannes Lundberg, bass, Jonny Axelsson, percussion, and G÷ran Kroon,
drums. These are all musicians who represent a fearless attitude towards
improvisation, and to be sure they extend the possibilities to the limits
within the framework of Mats Ekl÷f's intriguing compositions. Recorded in
Gothenburg, May 1997.
