Ministry Of Sound Session - Slam 03-09-2001
Enjoy this mix folks :)
Shouts to my other high qual buddies in 1REAL and the
cool geezers @ ITWT.

Slam consists of Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle. The
duo met while working in a bar in Glasgow's West End,
but it was in the small dark basement of a club called
Fury Murray's that they launched their first excursion
into DJing with Glasgow's first ever acid house night. A
four year residency with Sub Club's Harri called
Atlantis followed which lead to Slam putting on the UK's
first 5000 person all night events.
By 1991 Slam had set up Soma records with Dave Clarke,
Glenn Gibbons and Jim Muotone and in 1993 came the
release of the landmark Positive Education single. Such
was the success of the record that two years later it
was re-released due to popular demand with remixes by
Richie Hawtin, Derrick Carter and Luke Slater. 1993 also
saw the launch of Slam's Friday night residency at The
Arches in Glasgow and the start of their infamous
summertime parties on the Renfrew Ferry.
By this time Orde and Stuart were local heroes on the
Glasgow clubs scene and in demand worldwide. Their debut
album Headstates was released in 1996 and after a
national and international live tour that took in
Australia and North America, Slam released the Pressure
Funk12 ". 1997 also saw them return to large scale
events with the running of the Slam Tent dance music
arena at Glasgow's T In The Park, a project they still
run now.
In 1998 there's a second Pressure Funk 12" and after 6
slamfunkin years Slam closed the doors of the legendary
Slam at The Arches. On the night a 15-minute version of
"Positive Education" brings on the end of a
clubbing-era, not a dry-eye in the house!
The story doesn't end there though, since then Slam have
launched a new night at The Arches called Un-Cut and
they also put on Pressure at The Arches at the end of
every month with DJs like DJ Sneak, Richie Hawtin and
Carl Cox. The summer of 2000 saw Slam promoting four
parties at Privilege in Ibiza and in September they took
over the Alaska Club in Glasgow with their Freelance
Science night while Pressure continue to rock the Arches
each month.
