frank popp is dj, artist und graphik designer from the vaults of
unique records and member of the unique dj-team (new testament of
funk dj-tour). he's a fanatic collector of 60s accessories such as
posters or flyer-motives û and he's collecting records ever since!
this is the origin of his musical interest, whether it may be
sixties-soul, raregroove or freakbeats that he mixes with exotic
sampladelica-sounds when he┤s spinning records, just as it is on
his weekly "thunderbirds"-nights at the unique club in
duesseldorf, where bands and djs are to perform in the agenda of
beatmadness.
"hip teens don't wear blue jeans" is not an attempt to musically
revolutionize the fashion-world rather than a humorous move
against the attitude in various scenes to categorize and select
people by individual dresscodes. keep in mind: frank popp loves
blue jeans and hip teens for sure! as a designer and artist, frank
popp heavily focuses on the authenticism in the combination of
both visuals and sound. his first single "the catwalk" infact
constructed and converted the artwork of the legendary "blow up"
movie. to a sleeve-design. "hip teens" now appears to be a rare
and original super soul sound-revue poster representing all actors
of the "hip teens...."-clip, which was realised and produced by
graduates of the famous bauhaus school of design in
weimar/germany. the song title was accidentally constructed during
the lyrical writing process, as it became obvious to frank popp┤s
and sam brown, that "uptight" is the phrase for soulsongs in
general, because it rhythmically supports soul-music in the best
possible way. the first syllable ends with a p, the second kicks
off with a t. this creates power, try it out aloud: "hip teens"!
