│║ Includes ║│
│║ All The King's Horses (originally 1972) ║│
│║ A Secret Place (originally 1976) ║│
│║ ║│
│║ Both vinyl LPs were ripped before by -iMPG. Here they are in CD ║│
│║ quality. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ ║│
│║ One of the most popular saxophonists of all time (even his off ║│
│║ records had impressive sales), Grover Washington, Jr. was long ║│
│║ the pacesetter in his field. His roots were in R&B and soul-jazz ║│
│║ organ combos, but he also fared very well on the infrequent ║│
│║ occasions when he played straight-ahead jazz. A highly ║│
│║ influential player, Washington was sometimes blamed for the ║│
│║ faults of his followers; Kenny G. largely based his soprano sound ║│
│║ on Grover's tone. However, most of the time (except when relying ║│
│║ on long hit medleys), Washington pushed himself with the ║│
│║ spontaneity and chance taking of a masterful jazz musician. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ All The King's Horses: ║│
│║ Grover Washington Jr.'s second album as a leader once again ║│
│║ utilizes Bob James arrangements for a string orchestra and a ║│
│║ notable horn section. The backup group includes James' electric ║│
│║ piano, organist Richard Tee and guitarist Eric Gale. Not as many ║│
│║ highpoints are reached as on his debut but Washington is ║│
│║ typically soulful on such numbers as "Where Is The Love," "Lean ║│
│║ On Me" and "Lover Man," alternating quite effectively between ║│
│║ tenor and alto. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ A Secret Place: ║│
│║ Grover Washington Jr. (on soprano and tenor) is in typically ║│
│║ soulful form on this Kudu set but the material (even with the ║│
│║ inclusion of Herbie Hancock's "Dolphin Dance") is less ║│
│║ interesting than usual. Washington is joined by a relatively ║│
│║ small group that includes pianist Dave Grusin, an all-star rhythm ║│
│║ section (with guitarist Eric Gale), two horns (arranged by David ║│
│║ Matthews) and no strings; this was his first date as a leader ║│
│║ without Bob James' charts. A decent but not essential effort by ║│
│║ the pacesetter among modern soul-jazz saxophonists. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ ║│
│║ Quality statement ║│
│║ ───────────────── ║│
│║ ║│
│║ All IGR rips are carefully pre-listened for possible faults. ║│
│║ Likewise, we've chosen to preserve the orignal sound quality in ║│
│║ our vinyl rips by avoiding heavy audio filtering on complete files ║│
│║ and curing just the heaviest pops and crackles when needed. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ ║│
│║ Remember to support these artists by some method if you like them ║│
│║ by going to their concerts / buying more of their material / etc. ║│

│║ ║│
│║ Infinite Grooves was founded in early 1999 with the belief that ║│
│║ the best music has already been made. This was a neglected part ║│
│║ of releasing in the MP3-scene - now that has changed with Infinite ║│
│║ Grooves at the top. We will constantly keep bringing you the very ║│
│║ best in disco-soul, rare grooves, jazz-funk etc. Like wine, a good ║│
│║ groove only gets better with age - so we will bring you back to ║│
│║ the olde school! ║│
