The first La Douce Party volume released in 2002
celebrated the first five years of Irma RecordsÆ imprint La
Douce, the most popular Cocktail Lounge label on the
international scene, and it was a real event. Until that
time there had been no compilations showcasing the new easy
listening / cocktail sound, influenced by breakbeat and
electronic music and clearly aimed at the dancefloor. DJ
Ninfa, also known as æthe Italian Princess of Easy
ListeningÆ, compiler with DJ Scanna of the popular MoÆPlen
series, has selected tracks that come from various, often
not obvious, parts of the World. The selection opens with a
producer from Florida, Coconut Monkey Rockets, who twists
in four minutes a huge amount of orchestral samples,
recalling the roots of the Lounge sound. ItÆs followed by
an æerotic beatÆ cover of Italian 70Æs trash-pop anthem
Tuca Tuca, originally by Raffaella Carra, interpreted here
by rising porn star DanielaÆO, who debuts as a singer, with
a cameo from Monsieur Blumenberg (Chicco Montefiori) on
sax. Bum Bum is a wild punkeasy track by new
German-Brazilian project Riovolt, whose debut album Digital
Audio Bossa will soon be released on La Douce. Their style
merges breakbeat with easybeat and soundtrack moods. Robert
Passera, one of the most influent Italian DJÆs on the scene
and selector (together with Sir Taylor) of the recent
MoÆPlen Bacharach presents his previously unreleased Gringo
On The Rocks, an orchestral beat ride with western movie
influences. Ronnie Jones, US singer and DJ who moved to
Italy many years ago, where he reached a kind of cult
status, unveils for this album an unimagined souleasy
attitude with the song Jump ÆnÆ Join (The Party). Velvet 99
cover the classic Nancy Sinatra hit These Boots Were Made
For Walking, written by Lee Hazelwood, whose classy
composing skills are being rediscovered these days. Mike
Painter, founder and keyboardist of 80Æs Italian Mod band
Statuto, on his first solo venture, delivers his
hammondjazzbeat version of the classic U.F.O.Zagar hail
from Hungary and are YonderboyÆs live band. They are in La
Douce Party 2 with Bossa Astoria, a stunningly beautiful
orchestral bossa. Eat Static, UK act well known for their
technotrance background, reveal their love for loungecore
with the track Mondo a Go Go. Turbotropic are a new Italian
team and their Bollywood Soy is remixed by Ninfa herself.
They merge oriental influenced exotica with the frenziest
breakbeat. The international character of this compilation
continues with Black Market Audio from Germany and
Surprize! from Italy. Valvola were created by the minds
behind S.H.A.D.O., the most important Italian Electro
Lounge label. Their track Flashing Light is remixed by
Frank Popp Ensemble, leading producer from the German
scene. Jetpok, with Cold On You, Cold On Me, are another
new Italian act and Italian is also Tommy Bass, the B-Boy
of Italian Cocktail Lounge, with a second album out soon on
La Douce. The Ultra Beaver Lounge Band come from Mexico and
their La Playa is probably the easiest track on the album.
Papa Byrd from Los AngelesÆ based Transistor Recordings,
top Californian label of the genre, manage a radio station
and organize one of the most important club nights in the
area. They join the party with a breakbeat lounge track,
influenced by TV cop series soundtracks. Closing track of
the package is the anthem Music To Watch Girl By,
originally sung by various 60Æs crooners, the most popular
version was probably the one by Andy Williams. This
hiphopcocktail rendition is by Anglo-Italian team Hoxton
Twat. The extensive introduction still wonÆt give you an
idea of the great power generated by this breathtaking
selection that will force the listener into a compulsive
restless dance!
