big hair aka chris butterworth and aaron trinder started back
in 1995 with their funky style of 4/4 beats which reportedly
have won many fans over the years. although info on big hair is
remarkably scarce, i found out that during the years they have
been responsible for numerous releases under various monikers
such as le grand boofant, grey love, harri oli and kosa grande.
they started to release under kontraband in 1997 and swiftly
received dance floor recognition with tech-house anthem as
ôdougie at the ockieö, their string of remixes including the
manor maus mix for terry francis and nathan coles, and
collaborations with ben chapman (visitor) and nathan coles
(surreal). djs/producers who appraise their work include names
like fc kahuna, layo & bushwacka, luke solomon, lee burridge,
laurent garnier and tom middleton, to name just a few.
actually big hair can be held responsible for almost 100 tracks
over 30 individual releases, on labels from their own u-freqs
to kontraband, wiggle, plastic city, afro art, surreal, wrong
and many others. their productions take influences from variety
of different styles like afro beat, tech-house, chicago house,
funk, hip hop and various charity shop oddities. what stroke me
were the continuous references to the humour in their music û
something that i couldnÆt understand. only after playing their
newest release i understood crystal clear what this meant.
sold down the river is a compilation cd of their greatest
tracks, including some unreleased and live performances, all
mixed together by big hair. now sometimes creating an album
with only own work and mixing it together can be tricky but i
have to say the way big hair does it, its all a big road trip
to me.s
the cd begins with some maniac sounds of a school trip gone
sour, a feature that accompanies many of the tracks. spoken
samples taken out of movies or tv (?) would make the parental
advisory fanatic tippi gore go ballistic whereas for me it
gives a nice flavour. the music to me is sort of cross-over
between funky tech-house and disco influenced electro with
plenty of original samples and authentic instruments. the swing
storms in already at track 2, g-string underbeard which also
carries a rather intriguing indian atmosphere.
be ready to expect something out of the usual. this isnt music
that id go for in a club but just imaging their live
performance seems like an absolute cracker for me. all points

Dgn is around since 1998...
After a few years, a few rippers who left, a few who joined, people
greeting,people yelling, people threatening, people helping, people
watching, we're still enjoying our aime: Let ppl listen to what they
are gonna buy b4 they pay a single penny.
There have been also some people and groups that helped out during the
last few years, maybe it's because of them that (against all odds) we
are still releasing and doing well, those know who they are, and we'll
thank forever.
We remind our beloved public, we're against all kind of distrubution,
don't search our rips neither in your preferred XDcc channel, nor in
your local 127.0.0.1 p2p program, We do not distribute ! But it's not
nice to buy when you do not know what you're buying.
As a matter of fact, DGN is a private group, and do not need rippers,
fast or slow shells, traders, t1+ sites, couriers, prewhores, and hw
suppliers, we need only a nice chalet in Switzerland/Canada or a Villa
in the Caribbean sea where to listen to some chillout music.
