search the heavens was one of the soulful focal points of the
second quantic album æapricot morningÆ, thanks in no small part to
chanteuse extraordinaire alice russell. at jazz take on the remix
duties adding some masterful drum programming and delicate keys,
putting emphasis on the jazz elements within the song and dropping
a busy electronic bass line that boasts equal measures of energy
and introspection.
the flip side comes courtesy of budapestÆs rising star carmel (who
also records for good looking under his real name of marcel). his
take on off the beaten track turns the albums closing track from a
percussive exercise in afro-harpinÆ into a throbbing dubbed out
epic that should take the dance floors of the world by storm.
using vocal snippets that contradict most eu health warnings and a
bass sound that appears to have been turned up to eleven, carmel
has taken the undeniable energy of the foot shuffling original and
multiplied it ten-fold, resulting in a hard-edged stomp that
should stretch speaker stacks to their limits and turn even the
least responsive audience into a sweating mess.
