10 kilo records emerged as a downbeat experimental label at the
beginning of 1998. soon however, richard bloor (label originator)
began visiting clubs and parties on london's 'nu school breakz'
and "tech-house"scenes. a night called friction run by adam
freeland and rennie pilgrem inspired the development of the label.
10 kilo began to release more dancefloor related tunes that
captured the sound experienced on those dancefloors. this added to
10 kilo's eclectic mix of genres for all tastes, or if you like
'music for all persuasions'.
at the time a slang term for a seriously killer track was doing
the rounds - 'it's the ten killllorrr' - a heavy weight track.
with the increasing number of amazing tracks coming through the
door, the label was named 10 kilo. at the same time a number of
eye-catching calling cards appeared in the phone boxes of london's
w10. soon after a series of sexy images featured on the first run
of 10 kilo dj mix tapes an old favourite, the dominatrix still
features prominently in the label's artwork.
richard was soon joined by joe williams and dimitri nakov. joe has
achieved great success in his recording career as the light and
more recently as one half of the 10 kilo act pfn - proper filthy
naughty.
the philosophy behind 10 kilo has always been to release quality
music : - be it breakbeat or 4/4, stomping or serene. one single
can be reviewed on three different genre pages of a magazine. djs
from the techno, house, breakbeat, trance and chill-out scenes are
playing the latest 10 kilo releases. the tunes are generally aimed
at the alternative, cool, upfront danefloors and dj's that don't
play the normal club fodder but want something fresh and a little
bit different.
