Canadian blues band The Twisters' fourth album, Come out Swingin': The Masters
of Jump Swing Blues! is an accomplished exercise in a variety of blues sounds.
The band isn't really a jump blues band, though there are some jump influences
at work in their music. They hop around quite a bit stylistically (there's even
a reggae track here). Come out Swingin' features some great harp playing from
Dave "Hurricane" Hoerl and guitar slinging from Brandon Isaak, and the album was
produced by Isaak and his brother, roots-rock icon Chris Isaak. Whether it's
brother Chris' influence or something innate in the band's makeup, the record
has a great rootsy vibe. In a few spots, the lyrics are a bit heavy-handed and
clunky, but the album contains an entertaining batch of songs and is fun to
listen to.
