so so features the "creme de la creme" of finnish contemporary
jazz musicians. the lead in the four piece band is securely in the
hands of saxophonist olli ojajarvi, who also plays in the
prestigious umo orchestra. behind the hammond organ sits mikko
heleva who takes care of the bass lines from the same seat in true
doors style. teppo makynen is a highly merited drummer, in so so
he has exchanged the drums for turntables. sami kuoppamΣki is a
virtuoso drummer who has been playing in many bands most notably
the progressive rock band kingston wall. the bands tight and
ecstatic grip on their trademark drum 'n' organ style has been
honed by numerous gigs around europe.
the debut album serves up covers of jazz standards, new
compositions and remixes made from these ingredients. the fresh
sounding cover versions of "alone together" and the evergreen
"tequila" are followed by the ambient "so so theme" which takes us
into more modern territories.
"alone together / go with the flow remix" is produced by risto
eskolin and lasse vayrynen from accu. "so so theme", composed by
teppo makynen, is remixed by veikka erkola who was a member of
brothomstates before it became a one-man band and signed to uk
label warp. centro 53 remix leads so so into synthetic electro
soundscapes
