Release Notes:
--------------
Before they signed with Flaming Fish, this Canadian synth-pop band
recorded this largely overlooked debut album.
As the album's title suggests, An Optimistic Delight sports an upbeat,
danceable sound in the vain of Code of Ethics, New Order, and Erasure.
This can best be heard on tracks like "Here's To A Better Day", "Gates
of Heaven", "Hope In My Eyes", and "Strange Fits Of Passion". The band
also reaches out to the Latino crowd by recording three songs in
Spanish. These include a remix of "Here's To A Better Day", and two new
numbers entitled "Plea For Peace" and "Hope In My Eyes".
Although most of the songs on An Optimistic Delight are happy and
upbeat, there are a couple of darker numbers as well. These songs
include a harrowing first-person account of the life of a mental
patient titled "Institution" and "Reincarnation", which is a sarcastic
commentary on the belief in reincarnation.
By creating a collection of club-friendly, memorable songs, Red Sector
1 has managed to become one of my favorite synth-pop bands. Judging
from the superb sound heard on both An Optimistic Delight and their
several compilation appearances, this band's next release promises to
be a classic.
