An obscure piece, chronicling pre 1968 the attempt at community
life of a group of society disillusioned youths, the Etienne PΘrier film
ôDes Garτons et des Fillesö hasnÆt necessarily been assigned to
collective memory. Its soundtrack, however, is well worth revisiting.
Composed by French pianist and jazz drummer Errol Parker, with
the help of a young Jean-Michel Jarre, the EPÆs 3 tracks are scat
based, this jazz arm whereby the human voice is treated as an
instrument in its own right. Here, it manifests itself in velvety la la
las and heady harmonies floating on a silky jazz orchestration (the
magnetic ôSolangeö), and openly flirts with the impulsion of rhythm
and blues (the very Shifrinian ôDes Garτons et des Fillesö) Parker
and his group play the coolitude card and their blue notes give off
an incredibly intoxicating 60s flavour. Relaxation for blasΘ, tired
