Release Notes:
The mission :
Bring together 18 international "hybrid pop" breakthroughs for the
summer.
For who:
Those who haven't made their way into the jungle of the web and
nouveautes in the past few months.Fans of today's pop & rock. Those who
like unexpected hits, and who generally believe that some tracks
deserve more than a 15 days life online.
The genre:
Hybrid pop (except in one case), freshness, air du temps
(anxiety-tinted-cheerfulness?), slightly-twisted-lightness.
The base:
A compilation.
Remember "Keeping The Faith", "Artificial Intelligence", "C86",
"Respect For France", "Source Lab"... and the effort behind your own,
home made ball pen illustrated mix-tapes.
Compiling is all about sweat, attention and skills : suspense,
respirations, cliffhangers and (not) happy endingà
This one says it all on the cover artwork: starting all pop & girly
then progressively twisting.
You will notice that every SISTERS' support (CD, vinyl, flyers and ...)
are illustrated by different pictures of virile women and other men
accepting their femininity.
Some of them will be edited as collector's silk screens and might get
exposure in Paris in juneàcome have a drink if you're around.
The casting:
18 international Artists.
As we started the selection on summer '08, some unexpected "top listed"
surfaced since then (Passion Pit, Micachu), but still you will find
here some real novelty, as well as some long-lasting outsiders finally
rising (or?) (Frankmusik, The Soft Pack).
*Yes Giantess (Marvelous synthetic pop trio from Boston, completely
over the top, produced by Ayad "Bo-Flex" from Passion Pit)
*BMX ( Almost-girl-band from australian Queensland, sweet, synthetic,
sunny)
*Solid Gold (Minneapolis trio present here with a deliciousá
post-Madchester hymne)
*Ou Est Le Swimming Pool (Punchy electropop Camden Town trio, should
soon be producted by Trevor Horn which might help them become the FGTH
or PSB of the '10 era or something)
*The Golden Filter (Irresistible post moroderian discopop combo from
NYC)
*Micachu & The Shapes (21-year old magnetic pixie from London, produced
by Matthew Herbert)
*Little Pictures (lo-electropop duo from New Zealand, singing love
songs with a new-zealandish accent)
*Rainbow Arabia (New-York duo, to summarize a slo-mo, nicer, shamanic
tropical version of Crystal Castles)
*Passion Pit (becoming one of the pop revelations of 2009, this teenage
tears anthem will not be featured on the album)
*Frankmusik ("Vincent Frank is the sharpest pop prospect of his
generation, both effortlessly futuristic and achingly human"- The
Guardian Guide.
One our fave songs from 2008. He's back with an album. What a popstar.
Currently touring UK from town to town via Twitter and his Blackberry.
"Complete Me" his first album will be out in june)
*The Antlers (NYC lyrique indie pop that wouldnt be out of place during
the end credits of a sensible teen movie )
*Teengirl Fantasy (two young, poetic, rising electronic kids from Ohio,
very aptly named we reckon)
*CFCF (MontrΘal, one man, synths, melodies, cinematic, pop, blogs,
and/but he discovered Salem.)
*Modernaire (supported by the Ting Tings, Manchester decadence, sexy
and ingenue electropop at its charmest.)
*Django Django (like Syd Barrett singing on a Tarantino soundtrack
produced by Arthur Russell : the amazing Django Django from Scotland
and Ireland.)
*The Soft Pack (San Diego gang formerly the bestest named band ever
-The Muslims-, anyway 'Extinction' is still an instant nasty garage
classic)
*Gentle Friendly (Nervous london duo, tense, threatening, somewhere in
that No Age/Animal Collective/Ponytail disturbed family. Drummer is
also part of the really cool Banjo Or Freakout that we wanted for this
project but couldnt get. Oh well.)
*S.C.U.M (London, underage, dark, intense, practically dazzling
cathartic rock. And they're good looking.)
