Rhino Records has gathered three decades' worth of music
from the greatest soul group of the '70s-the Spinners!
Produced by the Spinners and Rhino's Gary Peterson, THE
CHROME COLLECTION is the group's first-ever boxed set
and will be available July 8.
From such acknowledged classics as "The Rubberband Man,"
"Working My Way Back To You," "Mighty Love," "Sadie,"
"Love Don't Love Nobody," "Cupid," "It's A Shame," "I'll
Be Around," and "One Of A Kind (Love Affair)," to choice
album cuts and rarities, this three-disc set is packed
with music that's smooth, funky and downright delirious.
Each of the three discs is titled and celebrates a
different era in the Spinners' history -- Together We
Can Make Such Sweet Music (1961-1974); Sitting On Top Of
The World (1974-1977); and If You Wanna Do A Dance
(1977-1989). Included are rare Motown nuggets such as
"What More Could A Boy Ask For?," a previously unissued
stereo mix of "We'll Have It Made," plus rare single
mixes making their first appearance since their initial
release.
The package also includes dozens of rarely seen archival
photos, detailed essays by Susan Whitall and Steven
Ivory, an introduction by David Gorman and testimonials
from artists such as David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Dionne
Warwick and Todd Rundgren. Taken as a whole, this is the
definitive story of this legendary soul band, from their
roots as a Detroit doo-wop band in the '50s, through
their Philly-soul heyday, and on into their continued
success in the disco years of the late 1970s. But one
thing always remained constant-those amazing harmony
vocals that gleamed like a freshly-polished Motor City
hubcap.
Originally known as the Domingoes, members of The
Spinners met as high school students in Ferndale,
Michigan, in the late 1950s before becoming part of the
Motown powerhouse in the mid-'60s. Unfortunately, Motown
never fully backed the group, and it wasn't until The
Spinners signed with Atlantic Records (and began working
with legendary producer Thom Bell) that the group really
hit their stride. With an arsenal of lead vocalists,
including the legendary Phillipe Wynne, the band's lush
and infectious arrangements were the envy of the
industry. They were a "hit machine" like few others
before or since.
With THE CHROME COLLECTION, listeners will fall in love
all over again to the sweet, sweet sounds of one of
America's greatest vocal groups.

aAF was created in Jan 2001 to fill a void left in the scene
by groups who would refuse to release anything but current
year music.Well since that time we have been rocking the
scene with classic rock rips.We have made classic music
mainstream in the scene and have been on top in that area as
the number one group in classic rips. We finished 2001 with
3800 rips.As we moved forward in 2002 we found we were also
releasing alot of quality 2k2 rips and saw that we were competing
in that area.In 2002 we finished with over 5000 rips.In 2003 we
plan to move forward and continue to release "THE NEW STUFF" and
strive to be on top in 2k3 rips.We will also continue to remain
on top like we have for 2 years in the classic rock scene.
It's not the Year that Matters it's the Music
aAF Forever
