Release Notes:
The Cribs are back, with Johnny Marr now fully in tow. The scuzz and
density from their self-titled album is but a piece of history, with
æCheat On MeÆ a completely different offering. The sound is knowingly
much larger than before, arguably due to Nick LaunayÆs introduction as
the albumÆs production hencho.
Where the fresh charm of æYou Were Always The OneÆ came from its
summery, garagey danceability, this songÆs main draw is MarrÆs
inventive guitar lines. The vocals and the lyrics have lost their
charm. Whether this makes sense is something that weÆll have to wait
for an LP on but for now, itÆs a track easily passed by on the first
couple of listens.
By the third listen, æCheat On MeÆ has certainly garnered more
attentionà it builds and builds without stalling. It doesnÆt have
anything setting it apart as distinctly æCribsÆ, though, sounding far
more epic by the end.
ThereÆs more space on this new one than weÆre used to from The Cribs
and itÆs not the most exciting track theyÆve released, but it certainly
marks a leap from a band no-one wouldÆve predicted to take this course.
