Previously unreleased material from the Warp vault, pressed exclusively
for the WARP20 LTD ED Boxset. I half-expected most of these tracks to be
pretty rubbish (unreleased tracks are usually that way for a reason) but
some of these are actually quite special. It includes one of the oldest
Autechre recordings, from 1991 back when they broadcasting on IBC Radio
in Manchester.. it actually predates their debut album Incunabula by
about 2 years and even has some 303 action.. very nice. Other tracks of
note include a BOC track from their Geogaddi era and a 1990 pseudo-rave
joint from Nightmares on Wax. Clarks track is actually one of his better
ones and sounds quite BOC inspired. Plaid include 2 nice if rather
predictable tracks from 2009 and Elektroids include a bonus cut, which
was left out of their classic album.
Indeed, the only disappointments for me are the Flying Lotus track (I
never did like his productions and he isn't even a proper Warp artist
anyway imo... where the hell is Aphex or Squarepusher?!) and despite the
Broadcast and Seefeel tracks being OK, I would have prefered some more
classic Warp sounds from their AI era...
Oh and one last thing. All the records are at 33rpm, but the BOC track
has its own side and i'm almost certain it is meant to be played at
45rpm, which is how i've recorded it. It makes sense, since it isn't a
particularly long track anyway and Warp have been around long enough to
know that tracks sound better cut at 45rpm whenever possible. I did
another recording at 33rpm just in case i'm wrong, so i'll trackfix that
later if required...
Enjoy this special release. More from the boxset to follow...
