▓████▓▌ Buddy Rich formed his first big band in late 1945, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ and although it lasted for over two years, it never ▓▌
▓████▓▌ really caught on. It was in its beginning stages, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ having already made a few recordings, when it ▓▌
▓████▓▌ appeared at the Hollywood Palladium in March 1946. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ This collector's LP (imported from France) has two ▓▌
▓████▓▌ radio broadcasts from that engagement. Rich's ▓▌
▓████▓▌ outfit was boppish but grounded in swing and ▓▌
▓████▓▌ generally hard-driving. Most of the sidemen were ▓▌
▓████▓▌ fairly obscure (best known are trumpeter Tommy ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Allison, trombonist Earl Swope and arranger Johnny ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Mandel, who plays trombone in the ensembles), while ▓▌
▓████▓▌ vocals were taken by Dorothy Reid and Rich himself ▓▌
▓████▓▌ (on "The Frim Fram Sauce" and "It's About Time"). ▓▌
▓████▓▌ With charts by Jimmy Mundy, Eddie Finckel and Tadd ▓▌
