Recorded on sun exposed film stock, this Basillica three-tracker
is difficult to sum up in a sentence. Going to so many places
(in a skunk summoned projection probably), the mileage on ôKingdom
of Statusö is pretty much off the clock. Mike VestÆs gramophone
guitar riffs go from night flight visuals to psych tones, un-patrolled
borderlines of near-dissonant repetition. This man has brought so much
Turkish / Persian influence and magic back in his head that he should
be setting up settlements in there. Vest lets the fog-out occasionally
become clearer / stronger, small internal distractions dipping in and
out of the mix while the riff goes on. ThereÆs an acute ability in
evidence here to create raqs baladi riffs, and not just ones that blast
you there and then û but ones that stay in the memory. Echoing around
corridors of brain maze, the use (or more aptly ænon-useÆ) of drone is
like magical sand rolling down and around the grooves of crypt sigils.
Yeah, Basillica make Barrow Wight psychedelia. 9/10
