Blank is a young duo from Italy formed by members of the gothic rock band
Headrops that offers here its first CDR, containing 6 tracks of up paced,
club friendly, dark electro (I don't know who came out with the qualific-
ation of "power electronics" in the liner notes, since this doesn't sound
at all like Genocide Organ, Whitehouse and the likes).
Blank's sound is a rather classic but efficient blend of clear electro that
carries the obnoxious influence of VNV Nation with clear synthetic loops and
a catchy and slightly distorted voice. In the end, you get something that
could well fit in a DJ play list between songs by recent acts like Assemblage
23 or God Module. The tracks are well written, the vocals being integrated
well enough to add to the efficiency of the tracks. The sounds used are still
a bit classic, but one has to remember this is more or less only a demo.
The music gets a bit more noisy and violent with "Mechanoid corp.", a nice
surprise that closes the CDR. The atmosphere of the CD is quite energetic,
but the voice has also a nice soul.
Even though I wasn't seduced by my first listen, Blank's material proves to
be quite interesting when you listen to it with the right mood or in a club.
This band deserves for sure to be signed on a label. Not revolutionary, but
competent, Blank's electro deserves a listening, and has everything to get
some success among fans of the current avatars of the electro scene.
