│ Could anybody please help me understand why Tortoise first ││
│ decided to "stay out of the remix game" (as the bio puts it ││
│ - a very good idea, by the way, undoubtedly inspired by the ││
│ current inflation of dreary re-workings of virtually ││
│ everyone's singles) and then put out this 12", which ││
│ contains the 2 dullest Tortoise remixes ever (easily)? ││
│ Nothing of the source material (presumably In Sarah, ││
│ Mencken, Christ, and Beethoven there were women and men) is ││
│ recognisable as such, which is of course not necessarily a ││
│ bad thing, but the beats are flat and banal, the samples ││
│ could have been lifted from any mediocre jazz-rock album, ││
│ and the tracks can't hold my attention for 10 seconds. A ││
│ release unworthy of Carter's and Tortoise's (obviously ││
