- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- -
Athens, GA band Spring Tigers combine classic pop songwriting with uniquely
combinatorial structure. That is, the compositions continually surprise via
secondary hooks. Just when you think youÆve got a handle on how a song will
transpire the band gives the added surprise of topping themselves. ItÆs all
really quite thrilling and a pure pop joy.
Led by guitarist and songwriter Kris Barratt, himself an English ex-pat
living in Athens, the band seems to move effortlessly though their material.
The fact is, though, that Spring Tigers are constantly working extremely hard
to hone their sound and keep everything tight as a drum. Barratt has been
down this road before with his critically acclaimed, though criminally
ignored band, The Capes. With Spring Tigers Barratt has applied his knowledge
and experience to writing guitar & synth-based, classic pop songs in the vein
of The Kinks, Blur, Big Star, etc. Fact is, thereÆs so much room to move in
this style that name-dropping becomes quite useless in short order. Listen to
the songs!
