Admitted to and graduated from the Ecole Normale Superieure
first of his class, Karol Beffa (b. 1973) studied history
(BA), English (MA), philosophy (M.Phil. Cantab.) and
mathematics. He is also a graduate of the Ecole Nationale de
la Statistique de l'Administration Economoique.
He entered the Conservatoire National Superieur de Msique de
Paris in 1988 where he obtained eight First Prizes (harmony,
contrepoint, fugue, music of the 20th century, orhcestration,
analysis, vocal accompaniment and piano improvisation). After
winning first place in the national competitive examination
for recruitment in music education, he taught at the
University Paris 4-5 Sorbonne and later at the Ecole
Polytechnique. In 2003 he obtained a doctorate in musicology
and in 2004 he became Associate Professor at the Ecole
Normale Superieure.
