Jan van Lier is not your typical producer or DJ. Hailing from
Humboldt County, California, an area not typically known for dance
music, his success was about as unexpected as possible. Still he has
been able to carve himself a niche in the tough dance world of today
with his unique sound and diverse productions. Jan is one of the core
artists of John Acquaviva's long-running label Definitive Recordings,
and his tracks bring a whole new feel and sound to the legendary
imprint. In a few short years Jan's tracks have been charted by many
of the worldÆs top DJs, including Adam Sheridan, Sandra Collins,
Amo/Navas, Andrea Doria, Swen Weber, Tattoo Detectives, and of course
John Acquaviva and Carl Cox, who included JanÆs 2008 release
ôRishadaö on his 2008 Space Ibiza CD. However, there is much more to
the story that just this.
Despite his recent arrival onto the global dance production scene,
Jan has been hard at work the last 10 years honing his skills behind
the decks, and moving crowds as diverse as Miami, New York City,
Canada, Spain, Peru, and his native Northwestern United States. His
eclectic but precise track selection (spanning tech, electro,
progressive and deep house sounds), combined with his smooth mixing
style, have earned him fans and accolades all across the world. He
has also helped organize and throw countless underground events all
around Northern California, from weekly club events to non-legendary
full moon parties in the scenic mountains of NorCal.
With four friends Jan has helped run and develop Deep Groove Society,
an event collective that brings world-class dance music to remote
Humboldt County, California. He is an avid music fan, and can be
found rocking just as often to metal and punk as to house or techno.
