New on Finders Keepers offshoot Bird comes
this limited edition five-track EP from Laura
Elizabeth Byron, a Cardiff-based singer-songwriter
who's been bold enough to submit five sketch-like
recordings (committed via one room, one mic, one
take) to 7".
On paper, that's hardly ever going to sound like an
especially attractive prospect, though in practice
there's undoubtedly something to be savoured here.
In all its raw charm there's a tone to the EP that's
reminiscent of those early CD-R releases by
Josephine Foster - the songs are delivered with a
heartfelt execution and there's that all-important
intangible, beguiling quality that sets certain acoustic
strummers apart from the herd.
