Tenor saxophonist Zane Massey explores the inside and
outside of jazz on this set of arresting originals.
Massey's versatility allows him to move easily from
surging free material to funk, and also effectively
cover blues and hard bop. The songs aren't laborabory
exercises; Massey and his mates burn on "Nu Kingdom,"
"Trickle Down Economics" and "Message From Trane." If
you've been a little dismayed at the reverential mood
and sensibility of much 1990s jazz, here's music that
