▀▀███▀▄█████▀ through Capitol Records! ▀█████▄

▐█████ ▐█▓ Hard-grooving Borialis formed in ▓█▌ █████▌
█████▌ ███▌ Neptune, New Jersey in 1997 when Rick ▐███ ▐█████
▀█████▄ ▓██▓ Dahrouge (vocals/rhymes), Eddie Acevedo ▓██▓ ▄█████▀
▀▀███████▀ (bass), Jimmy Farkas (guitar/keyboards), ▀█████████
▀▀██▄ Justin Rubinstein (guitar), Jay ▄██▀▀███ ▀ ▄
▄▄▄▄▄ ▐██▓ Kulikowski (drums) and Turntablist ▓██▌ ████▄ ▄█▌
▀ ▀▀███▄ ▄▓▓█▓▌ Doc-Nu combined elements of Classic ▐▓█▓▓▄ ▀███████▀
▐███▌▄█████▀ Rock and soulful Hip Hop into something ▀█████▄ ▀▀▀
▄ ▄███▄█████▀ entirely unique. At times acknowledging ▀█████▄
▀▀███▀██████▀ ▀▄▄ everything from Pink Floyd to Pete Rock, ▄▄▀ ▀█████▄
▐█████ ▐█▓ the band quickly earned a hard-won ▓█▌ █████▌
█████▌ ███▌ reputation for their incendiary live ▐███ ▐█████
▀█████▄ ▓██▓ shows. For most of 2001 the band played ▓██▓ ▄█████▀
▀▀███████▀ up and down the Jersey Shore and the ▀███████▀▓▄▄▄
▄▄▄ ▀▀██▄ Northeast, including packed hometown ▄██▀▀■ ▀████▄
▄████▀▀▀▄ ▐██▓ shows at the legendary Stone Pony in ▓██▌ ▐▌ ▐████
▐████▌ ▄▄▓▓█▓▌ Asbury Park New Jersey. ▐▓█▓▓▄ ▀█▄▄▄███▀
▀████▄▄▄▄███████▀ ▀█████▄ ▀▀▀
▀▀███▀▄█████▀ Signed to Capitol Records by President, ▀█████▄
▄█████▀ ▀▄▄ Andrew Slater, Borialis' debut album ▄▄▀ ▀█████▄
▐█████ ▐█▓ entitled What You Thought You Heard, ▓█▌ █████▌
█████▌ ███▌ was co-produced by Dahrouge and Howard ▐███ ▐█████
▀█████▄ ▓██▓ Willing (Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, ▓██▓ ▄█████▀
▀▀███████▀ 2Pac) and was mixed by famed Tom Lord ▀█████████
▀▀██▄ Alge. The record melds phat guitars, ▄██▀▀███ ▀ ▄
▄▄▄▄▄ ▐██▓ massive beats, fluid rhymes, and ▓██▌ ████▄ ▄█▌
▀ ▀▀███▄ ▄▓▓█▓▌ razor-sharp hooks into what the band ▐▓█▓▓▄ ▀███████▀
▐███▌▄█████▀ calls "The new Boom-Bap." ▀█████▄ ▀▀▀
▄ ▄███▄█████▀ ▀█████▄
▀▀███▀██████▀ ▀▄▄ "I'm not trying to portray a character," ▄▄▀ ▀█████▄
▐█████ ▐█▓ says Dahrouge. "The songs are all based ▓█▌ █████▌
█████▌ ███▌ on who we are. Just being yourself is ▐███ ▐█████
▀█████▄ ▓██▓ what we're all about. It sounds simple, ▓██▓ ▄█████▀
▀▀███████▀ but sometimes it's a struggle not to be ▀███████▀▓▄▄▄
▄▄▄ ▀▀██▄ over influenced by people. Whether you're ▄██▀▀■ ▀████▄
▄████▀▀▀▄ ▐██▓ a kid or an adult, that's a never-ending ▓██▌ ▐▌ ▐████
▐████▌ ▄▄▓▓█▓▌ thing, to always be what you feel, and ▐▓█▓▓▄ ▀█▄▄▄███▀
▀████▄▄▄▄███████▀ never front for anybody." ▀█████▄ ▀▀▀
▀▀███▀▄█████▀ ▀█████▄
▄█████▀ ▀▄▄ Borialis completed their summer 2002 ▄▄▀ ▀█████▄

▀▀██▄ more. To experience a live Borialis show ▄██▀▀███ ▀ ▄
