│release notes.
Nice comp of NU YAWK eps 1-3.
Pure-P are back again, this time turning their attention to New
York hip hop. "New York City (Allstar Mix)" blends a whole hots of
MCs together with a touch of Axelrod (David McCallum's "The Edge"
provides the backing). "All Real" strips Pitch Black down to some
tough and funky minimal shit. The Super big smash 'who knew?' smash
here is "Love Like Dis", mashing Faith Evans "Love Like This" with,
er, Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer". Shouldn't work. Does work!
Lastly we have "Move", which rocks Inspectah Deck all round the
dancefloor in banger style.
"Whussappenin?" gets on a seriously b-boy "Funky Drummer" breakin'
tip, with Method Man and Busta Rhymes getting busy on the mic. I'm
sure you can guess where "Ms Phat Bootleg" is going - dropping a
super laid back version of Mos Def's "Ms. Fat Booty", that's where.
The flipside features stripped-down booty bumper "Know The Name" -
X-ecutioners "The X" with Pharaohe Monch spitting vocals - and
"Mathematix (Refunk)", which rocks a rolling funk vibe with Mos
Def's "Mathematics".
"Smokin' Blunts" takes Faith's usual undercarriage (Chic's "Chic
Cheer") and splicing in Notorious BIG's "Party And Bullshit" rap
for a total party smasher. Title inspiration "New York Shit" by
Busta Rhymes gets the edit treatment on "Nu Yawk Shit (JB
Version)", while "Body Heat (Queens Mix)" takes a Mobb Deep rap and
works some seriously deep soul into the mix.
