Another HOT Release from aAF!
Fellowship lead instrumentalists Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jon
Cowherd and Brian Blade work the modern mainstream of
jazz through creative impressionism and expressive jams.
Saxophonists Melvin Butler and Myron Walden work
alongside bass and pedal steel guitar to produce a
distinctive set of timbres. TheyÆre thrilling from start
to finish; and yet, Fellowship is driven by a drummer
who prefers to remain in the back seat. Twenty-nine year
old Blade builds sonic landscapes based on the nightly
news and all else that occupies our thoughts. ItÆs
mainstream jazz for todayÆs society. After all, whatever
is reported from the next town or the other side of the
world could very well turn out to be tomorrowÆs news in
our own neighborhood. FellowshipÆs credo reflects, in
part, a sincere feeling that weÆre all brothers and that
whatever affects the others makes a difference to us
all.
With a few lyrics here and there and a guest appearance
by Joni Mitchell, the program features original
compositions by members of the ensemble. Frequent meter
changes suit their purpose, as impressions of boyhood
memories, social issues, and related emotions take
center stage. RosenwinkelÆs guitar breathes fire on
"Evinrude-Fifty" and "Crooked Creek." Both saxophonists
and the pedal steel guitar offer crucial impressions,
particularly on "Crooked Creek." Highly recommended,
FellowshipÆs second Blue Note album reflects upon
contemporary social issues through its distinctive,
contemporary, modern jazz sound.

aAF was created in Jan 2001 to fill a void left in the scene
by groups who would refuse to release anything but current
year music.Well since that time we have been rocking the
scene with classic rock rips.We have made classic music
mainstream in the scene and have been on top in that area as
the number one group in classic rips. We finished 2001 with
3800 rips.As we moved forward in 2002 we found we were also
releasing alot of quality 2k2 rips and saw that we were competing
in that area.In 2002 we finished with over 5000 rips.In 2003 we
plan to move forward and continue to release "THE NEW STUFF" and
strive to be on top in 2k3 rips.We will also continue to remain
on top like we have for 2 years in the classic rock scene.
