A landmark record in the European jazz scene of the 60s -- an
incredibly hip batch of tracks from the Novi Singers, a Polish
vocal group whose sound was warm, wonderful, and very very
groovy! The set took their cue from American and French
vocalese combos of earlier years, but worked in a manner that
was infused with some of the cooler trends that were moving
through Europe's postwar jazz scene -- including modal
grooving, free-thinking solos, and even a love of Brazilian
rhythms, which shows up clearly in this set! Backing is by a
core jazz combo, but also augmented with strings -- which gives
the album a shimmer, floating quality that we really love.
