█ When I first heard this score back in the early █
█ 90's I never liked it. I was well aware of its █
█ stylistic coherence and was surprised by the █
█ symphonic approach, but I found it far too █
█ uninteresting. Now, several years later, I have to █
█ admit that the music has a maturity and a dark █
█ quality that is quite striking. In fact, Billy █
█ Bathgate is a very skilfully produced soundtrack █
█ album presenting a score with an admirable █
█ consistency - the blend of sophisticated █
█ electronics with the orchestra gives the listener █
█ a wonderfully dark feeling of dark smoke screens █
█ and wet pavements in the night. There are smaller █
█ portions of action, but these are a bit █
█ uninspired. As in many of Isham's scores, it's the █
█ atmosphere that makes it a unique listening █
█ experience. █
