█│ The first rule of genetics is do not marry your │█
█│ cousins. Or second cousins. In fact try and spread │█
█│ your genes as far as possible. As you know from the │█
█│ beautiful Swedish girl with an Italian father, this │█
█│ is no rule of thumb, its gospel. The same is true for│█
█│ music. The influx of dubstep to spread its wild oats │█
█│ among house and techno has re-ignited much of the │█
█│ creativity lacking in 4/4 realms. │█
█│ │█
█│ On Sub Continental Dub's third release, Deepchild's │█
█│ production hand has certainly been swayed by the │█
█│ wobbling, skittering vibes resonating from London and│█
█│ Bristol. Closer to the deep rooted sound normally │█
█│ associated with the South Western UK city, the │█
█│ Australian DJ/producer drops two lush cuts that set │█
█│ the scene for a pair of killer remixes. │█
█│ │█
█│ Shameless In Seattle goes rude, twisting a rapped │█
█│ vocal sample and around broken, insistent subs. │█
█│ Deepchild powers up the sci-fi bass generators, │█
█│ injecting a little garage squelch to drive gnarled, │█
█│ mutant percussion. The track is loose to the point of│█
█│ brittleness, swaying and ducking while making good │█
█│ use of tempo changes to drive home the rhythm. │█
█│ │█
█│ Wannado is tight, tense and sensuous. With vocal │█
█│ samples setting a gentle rhythm while percussion │█
█│ ticks away, the track is initially set deep. While │█
█│ the track is happy to bask in its broken chug for │█
█│ most of its duration, the vibe is skilfully altered │█
█│ during the breakdown. Freed from 4/4 constraints, the│█
█│ Ozzie adds a little skank, clouded by washes of │█
█│ melody, before easing back into the beat. │█
█│ │█
█│ Gravious' remix of Wannado ups the tempo to move the │█
█│ package closer to the dance floor. Adding familiar │█
█│ video game bleeps and lurching stabs - yet not │█
█│ forgetting the deepness of the original - he balances│█
█│ melody with rhythm on this well executed wobbler. │█
█│ Boiling up a hypnotic vocal three way of accelerated │█
█│ calls, pitched down divas and a soft soulful cry, the│█
█│ elements jostle synths for position, each taking │█
█│ turns at centre stage. The result will not be lost on│█
█│ jocks wishing to change the direction and mood of │█
█│ their set without dropping the intensity. │█
█│ │█
█│ Westernsynthetics' work on Shameless.' is of │█
█│ aggressive fashion. Tough, pummelling kicks, far off │█
█│ metal grinding, led by cleverly deployed sub bass │█
█│ takes care of the stepping, while attitude is │█
█│ injected through the original's vocal sample. │█
█│ Updating the early Detroit influenced Warp sound, │█
█│ it's moody and sparse - a hoods-up, heads-down number│█
█│ for today's floors. │█
█│ │█
█│ This package is a well rounded dip into the dance │█
█│ music gene pool, courting a range of influences from │█
█│ rave to industrial. The loose dubstep template │█
█│ applied to all four tracks allows the space and │█
█│ fluidity to effortlessly combine the garnered │█
█│ components, creating versatile dance floor weapons in│█
█│ the process. │█
