▓████▓▌ For a long time now guitarist/ singer Selwyn Slop ▓▌
▓████▓▌ has been filling the desolate emptiness of the Fin ▓▌
▓████▓▌ de SiΦcle with his own music. His meeting with ▓▌
▓████▓▌ drummer Remco Cornelissen in the summer of 1998 was ▓▌
▓████▓▌ the first step in the rise of Incense. The band was ▓▌
▓████▓▌ complete when friend and guitarist/ bass player ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Bart Baekelandt joined them. This line-up made the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ holy fire ignite in Incense. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ At first they played simple noisy pop-songs in ▓▌
▓████▓▌ order to get musically acquainted with each other. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ On their first CD, called "Assorted Songs" (a ▓▌
▓████▓▌ compilation of early demo's), compact songs are ▓▌
▓████▓▌ alternated with noisy passages. After this ▓▌
▓████▓▌ compilation the band set out a new course to obtain ▓▌
▓████▓▌ what was the bands prime reason of existence: ▓▌
▓████▓▌ experiment and adventure in melody, and above all: ▓▌
▓████▓▌ emotion. In July 2000 the maxi cd-single "See you, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ saw you, miss you, kill you" was released, followed ▓▌
▓████▓▌ by their debut full-length album (CD and LP!) ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "Approx 45 min." (Suburban Records) in August 2001. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ This debut album was recorded at 'the Void' studio ▓▌
▓████▓▌ of Pieter Kloos (Motorpsycho, 7zuma7, Suimasen, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Beef, Peter Pan Speedrock, Spoiler). ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ This wayward course didn't stay unnoticed. They ▓▌
▓████▓▌ played in clubs and on festivals across the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Netherlands and left the audience dumbfounded with ▓▌
▓████▓▌ their explosive and energetic live performances. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ They played with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Fireside, Aereogramme, At the Drive-In, the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ (International) Noise Conspiracy, Juno and many ▓▌
▓████▓▌ others. They won several local and national awards ▓▌
▓████▓▌ including, the biggest and most prestigious ▓▌
▓████▓▌ competition for new coming bands in the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Netherlands, 'Grote Prijs van Nederland 2000'. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Their video clip is broadcasted through MTV, TMF, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ The Box and TV West. In 2002 they performed at ▓▌
▓████▓▌ South x South West (Austin, Texas), Germany, Poland ▓▌
▓████▓▌ and Belgium. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Now it's time for their second album "On Tip of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Wings We Walk." Again Incense set off to 'the Void' ▓▌
▓████▓▌ to work with producer Pieter Kloos. On this album ▓▌
▓████▓▌ you can hear a more homogeneous sound. This new ▓▌
▓████▓▌ sound is more open and leaves more space for ▓▌
▓████▓▌ melody. The songs breathe air and from time till ▓▌
▓████▓▌ time booming guitars and thundering drums shall ▓▌
▓████▓▌ overwhelm the fresh breathing air. The album is ▓▌
▓████▓▌ dynamic in a different way. Huge eruptions and ▓▌
▓████▓▌ walls of guitars characterize "Approx. 45 Min." For ▓▌
▓████▓▌ the album "On Tip of Wings We Walk" they used a ▓▌
▓████▓▌ more sophisticated approach. They experimented with ▓▌
▓████▓▌ other instruments, for example old synthesizers, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ electric piano and several brass instruments. This ▓▌
▓████▓▌ led to cooperating with other musicians and really ▓▌
▓████▓▌ influenced the sound of Incense's music. Every time ▓▌
▓████▓▌ you listen to this record you will rediscover the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ songs, which makes it a hell of a good journey to ▓▌
▓████▓▌ melancholic worlds. ▓▌

▓████▓▌ This new course does not mean that Incense has ▓▌
▓████▓▌ become a symphonic big band. On the contrary, at ▓▌
▓████▓▌ live shows they still are exceptional dynamic, ▓▌
