    █ █                action and jazz scores stretching from   █ █
    █ █                the Sixties to the present. His large a  █ █
    █ █                versatile portfolio includes wonderful   █ █
    █ █                classics scores like Bullitt, The        █ █
    █ █                Cincinnati Kid, Mission Impossible and   █ █
    █ █                Dirty Harry as well as equally great,    █ █
    █ █                but more recent scores like Tango, Rush  █ █
    █ █                Hour and Something To Believe In.        █ █
    █ █                However, Aleph Records release of a new  █ █
    █ █                recording of the score from the 1968     █ █
    █ █                film of D H Lawrence's film, The Fox, is █ █
    █ █                something special. This score is almost  █ █
    █ █                unique among the composer's score in its █ █
    █ █                classical and romantic nature, coupled   █ █
    █ █                with its delicate and simple sound, as   █ █
    █ █                well as almost a total lack of jazz      █ █
    █ █                cues.                                    █ █
    █ █                The main haunting theme to The Fox is    █ █
    █ █                reminiscent of Johnny Mandel's 'The      █ █
    █ █                Shadow of Your Smile' from the 1965 The  █ █
    █ █                Sandpiper. The main title, 'The Fox' and █ █
    █ █                the early cues are wistful combinations  █ █
    █ █                of piano and flute that generate a warm  █ █
    █ █                and romantic feel. Other variations of   █ █
    █ █                the theme use percussion and woodwind to █ █
    █ █                generate a darker, foreboding mood. The  █ █
    █ █                music is deep and captivating, even when █ █
    █ █                menacing. The vocal cue, 'That Night',   █ █
    █ █                and an extra magnificent jazz version of █ █
    █ █                the main theme 'The Fox Symphony' are    █ █
    █ █                the only tracks in composer's usual      █ █
    █ █                style. 'The Fox Symphony' is brilliant,  █ █
    █ █                upbeat and worth the price of the CD     █ █
    █ █                alone.s                                  █ █
    █ █                The Fox is almost unique among scores by █ █
    █ █                Lalo Schifrin, in that it is both        █ █
    █ █                subdued and thoughtfully deep while most █ █
    █ █                of the cues lack the composer's          █ █
    █ █                characteristic jazz style. It is almost  █ █
    █ █                a classical work that could easily rank  █ █
    █ █                alongside works of Claude Debussy or     █ █
    █ █                Camile Saint-Saens. Followers of Lalo    █ █
    █ █                Schifrin will love this expression of    █ █
    █ █                versatility and others will certainly    █ █
    █ █                find this score an impressive            █ █
    █ █                demonstration of the film composers'     █ █
    █ █                art. Also note the glorious              █ █
    █ █                Sixties-style cover illustration.        █ █
