Father MC straddles the line between hip-hop and
new-jack-swing, which resulted in a #20 hit, "I'll Do 4 U,"
from his debut album Father's Day. Nearly two years after
his debut, Father MC. followed it with Close to You. Its
success was almost guaranteed by Father MC's appearance on
the CD Uptown MTV Unplugged. Father MC was formerly a
dancehall reggae performer, and there was some reggae
influence interspersed with the sentimental love lyrics and
hip-hop production. After a four-year studio hiatus, he
returned in 1999 with No Secrets.
