This is the one we've all been waiting for. The cheeky 50 Weapons
imprint drops three "Unofficial" remixes of tracks from the recent
Moderat album, asking T++, Headhunter and Shackleton to reimagine
the tracks with a futureproof technoid steppers slant to get very
excited about. If you invested in the limited double disc edition
of the Moderat album you'll no doubt cherish the final cut from
Shackleton, remixing 'Rusty Nails'. Now, we're no strangers to
overblown statements of purest gush, but even by the man's own
admission this track is quite simply one of the best tracks he's
ever produced. As with all the best Shack trax, there's a keenly
defined sense of narrative that demands your undivided attention
from start to finish, making subtly brilliant use of Apparat's
vocals with pitch shifting tricks and scarily well timed
arrangements, but it's the sensational synthline that'll deliver
the payload, sounding like the darkest hoover-bass that D-Bridge
and Burial could only imagine in their most feverish warehouse
dreams. If there's any justice in the world every (good) rave
should finish with this track! On any average 12" the two killers
from T++ and Headhunter on the flip would be more than enough, but
this record is all about that shocking A-side. Hands down, one of
the records of the year.
