██▓▓ The third outing for Hausmeister on Karaoke ██▓▓
██▓▓ Kalk arrives, and while the name is probably ██▓▓
██▓▓ the least well known of the Karaoke roster, ██▓▓
██▓▓ the albums have always been amongst the very ██▓▓
██▓▓ best material on the label. "Hausmeister" ██▓▓
██▓▓ literally means "caretaker", and from the ██▓▓
██▓▓ homespun, almost brazilian charms of ██▓▓
██▓▓ "Nitten" from the self-titled debut, to the ██▓▓
██▓▓ slide guitars and prominent gingham of ██▓▓
██▓▓ "Unser", Hausmeister have in one way or ██▓▓
██▓▓ another been a consistent part of our office ██▓▓
██▓▓ soundtrack for the last two years. The intro ██▓▓
██▓▓ 'Ester's Moonraker melodies sweep over ██▓▓
██▓▓ smooth, warm bass tones perfectly setting up ██▓▓
██▓▓ the harpsicord funk of 'Wester' - a jolt of ██▓▓
██▓▓ pure pleasure for the head and heart. Songs, ██▓▓
██▓▓ sometimes without words, play a large part ██▓▓
██▓▓ in the Hausmeister world, 'Freitag's lilt ██▓▓
██▓▓ hints at affinities to the brazilian songs ██▓▓
██▓▓ of Caetano Veloso, the pastoral settings of ██▓▓
██▓▓ folk, maybe even Gorkis from the new breed. ██▓▓
██▓▓ "Kleiner" with its acoustic guitar and ██▓▓
██▓▓ breathing flute deepens still further the ██▓▓
██▓▓ inherent tenderness of the Hausmeister ██▓▓
██▓▓ sound. 'Weiter' meaning 'further' or ██▓▓
██▓▓ 'forward' is a step onwards to a more ██▓▓
██▓▓ heartfelt sound, and a definite maturing of ██▓▓
██▓▓ Hausmeister's skills. A great conclusion to ██▓▓
██▓▓ a busy year for Karaoke Kalk, which has seen ██▓▓
██▓▓ the triumph of Donna Regina's "Northern ██▓▓
██▓▓ Classic", the critically acclaimed albums ██▓▓
██▓▓ from Maerz and Wechsel Garland, the hand ██▓▓
██▓▓ sewn vinettes of Takagi Masakatsu and back ██▓▓
██▓▓ to base in Kandis' manoeuvres with bass and ██▓▓
██▓▓ rhythm on "Airflow". "Weiter" affords many ██▓▓
██▓▓ further moments of acoustic summer dreams ██▓▓
██▓▓ and perky electronic themes, just the album ██▓▓
██▓▓ to curl up with as winter nights gather in. ██▓▓
