Amazing gathered up and dusted off tracks from Drekka.
Full title: Collected Works: Vol.1 (1996) Someday I Will Be
Called Upon Regarding Matters Of Tone
Remastered from the original source tapes by Drekka at
Bluesanct, August 2009.
Dedicated to the probing wisdom of Phil Perry, R.I.P.
For Kirstin, who these were for originally... und das ist
immer noch.
For all Day2 Alliance family, esp. Wim and Annelies.
Background:
1996.. Drekka produces its first fruits, two very differenty
cassettes entitled 'Grieve' (in august) and 'windowframe EP/
Hermitage one EP' (in December. The first captures the grief
of loss, the hope of love and the sounds of a vast empty New
England house. The second captures a cramped, but cozy
apartment and the first Chicago winter.
1996-2009: Drekka has tours extensively in Europe as well as
the US (with like-minded artists such as Jessica Bailiff,
Iditarod, In Gowan Ring, Annelies MonserΘ, Rivulets, Stone
Breath, Vollmar, and releases a bunch of items on morc,
bluesanct, digitalis industries, and has comp tracks on ao
secret eye, drag city...
Anderson also runs bluesanct, responsible for releases by
Black forest/black sea, Boduf Songs, Cindytalk, Iditarod, In
Gowan Ring, Low, Pantaleimonà and many more.
2009.. 13 winters later, morc records our of gent, Belgium,
issues a 2cd set entitled 'Drekka - "Someday I will be called
upon regarding matters of tone - Collected Works - Volume
One", containing both cassettes in their entirety, plus all
extant DREKKA recordings from 1996...
This 2cd is a one-time pressing, and comes in gorgeous
cardboard packaging, including a 24 page booklet, handbound by
mr drekka himself.
What Norm says:
Drekka is an American midwestern chap called Michael Anderson,
I can't work out where exactly he hails from but Morc have a
cool 2xCD anthology out by him entitled 'Collected Works:
Volume One'. Starting with grainy, washed-out acoustic musing
interspersed with fuzzy dialogue samples & a gradually
encroaching approximation of DIY space rock, further
exploration reveals delvings into musique concrete,
meandering, cracked lo-fi ala early Hood et al, haunting
industrial ambience & blurred atmospheric soundscapery where I
can hear flecks of a more downbeat Disco Inferno or a bedsit
Bark Psychosis. Certain passages possess recognisable strands
of influence derived from the early to mid 90's Bristol scene
IE introverted spacerock spliced with junkyard electronica. A
fascinating listen, I'm really looking forward to having time
to indulge disc two given the rich variance of the first set
of, presumably, early works! Nice package, includes booklets &
inserts and other cute bobs.
