▓               Jimmy Giuffre is the inventor, the pioneer, who               ▓
▓               since 1954, with Shelly Manne and Shorty                      ▓
▓               Rogers, foresees the relevance of a completely                ▓
▓               opened improvisation, without groundwork,                     ▓
▓               without topic pretexts. The place of Jimmy                    ▓
▓               Giuffre should be with Armstrong and Ellington                ▓
▓               with Parker and Coltrane, i.e. in the Pantheon                ▓
▓               of the inventors of new emotions.                             ▓

▓               'As i began to pln this album, the music came                 ▓
▓               so easily that my whole attitude toward it                    ▓
▓               became relaxed and settled. In fact, one piece                ▓
▓               practically wrote itself, so I called it 'The                 ▓
▓               Easy Way'. All this could probably be traced to               ▓
▓               several things, but the one point that seems                  ▓
▓               strongest in the fact that i knew I was to have               ▓
▓               Jim Hall and Ray Brown as my fellow-musicinas                 ▓
▓               for the album.                                                ▓
▓                                                                             ▓
▓               The idea was born out even more at the                        ▓
▓               recording sessions. I don't mean to imply there               ▓
▓               weren't some really difficult sp⌠ts -- there                  ▓
▓               were many -- but the three of us fell into a                  ▓
▓               oneness which allowed the music to roll out                   ▓
▓               naturally. In the middle of one of the sessions               ▓
▓               it suddently hit me that the album should                     ▓
▓               obviously be entitled THE EASY WAY. '                         ▓
