Release Notes
Nova Tekk is a German label that wasn't closely connected with the
psychedelic trance scene as Blue Room Released or Flying Rhino Records were,
even not possessed ownself recognizable artists family, yet its activity value
for the history of the scene was truly important.
That value of Nova Tekk activity for the psychedelic trance scene should,
however, be divided in two aspects. Firstly, the label didn't have plainly
crystallized set of own artists, so it didn't release new material that would
develop that music. It focused on a redistribution of recognized pieces and
masterpieces of other labels wholly rooted in the psytrance - and that was its
own way, that second aspect of Nova Tekk's activity, which label was
completely devoted to. It had has its huge meaning for the scene. Thanks to
this, many, many albums and compilations, which high quality is indisputable
(it's enough to take a look at the discography), had a chance to reach to even
wider circle of fans, what in the contemporary situation had its beautiful
sense, and by which after the years, the chances of purchase old diamonds
increase.
So through the years of its life, 1995-2002, Nova Tekk released CDs licensed
by Dragonfly Records, LSD - Liquid Sound Design, TIP Records or Trust In
Trance Records, and also focused on releasing compilations related to the
scene's leading labels. In definite majority that were usual reeditions, only
some CDs based on license contained changes in the relation to their
originals. In this apsect it's worth to mention about the special German
edition of Hallucinogen's "The Lone Deranger", which contains a bonus track.
Most of the Nova Tekk's releases were joint, i.e. they also get catalogue
numbers of its very many sublabels. The minor part of them - A Band On ...
Records, Credo, Eraser, Frame, Solar Plexus - was connected with music like
synth-pop, electro, gothic rock, industrial and ebm. But the others Nova Tekk
sublabels already were connected with the psyscene and been covering nearly
all psychedelic trance's varieties. In this case a very important part of Nova
Tekk was especially Global Trance Network. GTN lived between 1999 and 2002.
Within its own sublabels - d.Drum, Liquid Audio Soundz, Sector, Velvet Inc. -
was one of a kind contradiction with "typical" Nova Tekk way, because f.e. on
d.Drum were released two cult albums by The Delta, while on Liquid Audio
Soundz the debut CD of a famous Son Kite.
For a special attention also deserves Tua Records and Cameleon, another Nova
Tekk's sublabels, because in their own authorship compilations were also
contained those scene's magnificences. Tua was active in 1997-2000. Together
with Nova Tekk had released goa trance and psytrance; 19 two-discs releases in
sum up, almost all in digipacks. Tua was known for its series of compilations:
"Chill Out" (six parts), "A Voyage Into Trance" (three parts), "Psychedelic
Visions" (three parts) and "The Colours Of Shiva - The Psychedelic T.I.P.
Trip" (three parts). Whereas Cameleon was living in the period of 1997-2002.
Released goa trance, psytrance, but also more commercial styles: house or hard
trance; in sum up around 28 releases. Cameleon was known on the scene thanks
to compilations series: "Chakra" (six parts) and two-discs "Planet-Goa" (four
parts) and "Mushroom Trance" (three parts). A small Nova Tekk's sublabel,
though closely connected with the scene, was Ganesha (1997-2002). While Tua
and Cameleon had been releasing only compilations, then Ganesha only albums -
unfortunately, just four.
The others, but definitely less known, sublabels of Nova Tekk connected with
the scene were: M.A.S.H. (goa trance, psytrance, trance; 18 only vinyl
releases; 1998-2001), Naja (goa trance, psytrance, progressive, trance; 35
only vinyl releases; 1997-2001), Pro.Tone Recordings (psytrance; 7 releases;
2002), Pro-Tekk (psytrance; 2 releases; 2000), Psy-Tekk (psytrance; 4
releases; 2000) and Terminal 6 (psytrance; 1 release; 2001).
It's also worth to say in the context of Nova Tekk's history about Sub
Terranean - the label, which releases were continued by Nova Tekk. However,
among these titles the connection with the psyscene can be found only in
"Tantrance", a famous series of two-discs compilations, which first seven
parts - from all twelve - Sub Terranean released yet separately. "Tantrance 8"
was released by Nova Tekk, while Global Trance Network released the 9-12
episodes.
Nova Tekk with its all sublabels ended the life in 2002. There was a plan to
release Chi-A.D.'s "Earth Crossing" album, but Nova Tekk had gone bankrupt
before it entered the shops. The financial problems, that in the first years
of the 21st century started to occur to many legendary labels and which turned
part of them to death, for sure has caused changes to the scene sound which
since that time started to rush in one way only, the masses direction, causing
the psychedelic trance death by the same way. In the face of that story, the
activity of Nova Tekk - which years almost perfectly fits into the period of
psytrance existence - is a beautiful spreading and popularizing the music
style essence. Perhaps judged under some reasons as adjusted to a greedy
profit, but every person that couldn't bought original release bought then a
Nova Tekk's substitute, certainly won't confirm that.
