I Didnt know if i should tag this as either Lofi or
Electronic. It is a very good mix of both genres.
The Copenhagen-based six-piece collective Blue Foundation
(DK/Jap/UK) was established back in 1998 when Kir and Tobi
went to London looking for a turntablist.They came across
Tatsuki,a Japanese DJ who had moved to London to study and
DJ.Tobi and AB already established Abstract Movement back
in Copenhagen and joined with Kir and Reefr K doing some
sessions. Later in 1999 MC Jabber was in town performing at
the dance piece "Skizo", and Kir heard about this UK rapper
and slam poet. Tobi was looking for an English speaking
rapper with a strong personality, and in Jabber the crew
found the soul. Go Beat! had been involved too, but
finally, in early 2001 the debut album arrived on the
streets. April Records was the label.
Blue Foundations rare and unique blend of dark, massive
beats, deep abstract soundscapes and universal musical
language captivated people from around the world. From
Chile to Bergen, across Europe and the states to Kyoto
people who care have been touched by Kirs fragile, yet
impulsive and atmospheric vocal performances. They
spiritual, fast speaking in your face MC Jabber boiling up
the words is an output on stage, that can only be really
experienced live. And mentioning poetry, it seems like Bo,
still very young of age, is playing his horn, as he if he
is gasping the words of Rimbaud. They toured Scandinavia
and Japan. Bringing the whole massive 9 piece live crew on
the road, and to the edge of musical expression. At Yellow
in Tokyo they played for a full crowd at 02 AM Tuesday
morning and when they finished the 2 weeks tour back in
Tokyo it seemed that the band could do anything, become
what they always hoped. And later back at Copenhagen Jazz
Festival the same year, they presented a night of visuality
and music that explained why Blue Foundation both on record
as well as live, is always something new and unexpected. A
journey into contemporary urban music and culture. Coming
from London, Osaka and Copenhagen. A continuous exploration
of new impressions and investigations, breaking down
borders between cultural and artistic articulations. Like a
skateboard climbing on the edges and open spaces of city
culture, Blue Foundation keeps doing what they are supposed
to do. Keeping it real, with only one focus in mind.
Developing artistically aiming to keep pushing the musical
language into untouched areas. That's why the crew have
collaborated or performed with Calm (JAP), The Mixologists
(JAP/UK), Silicom (JAP), Fauna Flash (D), DJ Krush + Hide
(JAP) and several other artists. And Tatsuki has toured
with DJ Krush (JAP), DJ Klock (JAP) and Baku (JAP).
Exchanging musical ideas, learn from each other, and having
fun. And multi awarding winning vocalist, poet and dancer
MC Jabber keeps performing at festivals, theatres, concerts
and cafes, radio, televison and cyperspace in 4 different
continents.
Blue Foundation is now back in the studio working hard on
new material. Sessions with Spikey Tee from Blood and
Fire(UK), Militant Mind State(US) are among the current
productions, and solo projects from Tatsuki, Kir as well as
poetry shows from MC Jabber, are among the many activities.
