Mego's press release refers to Pure's CD Noonbugs as "a take on the
darker edge of 20th century classical/avant-garde" and attempts to put it
in the same category as the works of Alvin Lucier and Eliane Radigue ù by
saying it doesn't belong there, which is a clever rhetorical abracadabra.
This album does indeed fit the dark ambient criteria and stands as the
label's smoothest sonic ride up to this point, but composer's music? One
should not automatically build a wall between so-called serious music and
electronica (actually, such a wall would now be impossible), but clearly
this continuous one-hour piece has been conceived by the mind of an
electronic artist. The pace, flow, technique, and general constitution of
it stem from experimental ambient rooms, not academic studios. The eight
indexes represent points of inflection in the unfolding of the piece:
changes in thickness, introduction of a new sound source, new momentum.
Throughout, drones and sine waves move around at a comfortable pace.
Digital glitches and treated samples populate the landscape ù a female
voice in "Ivan," a bowed double bass in "Pelt." If Pure demonstrates a
commanding level of artistry as a sound designer, his piece remains too
unidimensional to really engage the listener. Much more eventful than
Lucier's or Radigue's music on its first level, in the end it opens fewer
doors of perception. It has moments that fans of Fennesz and Kim Cascone
will enjoy, but it rarely reaches either one's hypnotizing charm. ù

rH has been releasing stuff for about three years now. although we
committed ourselves to release only stuff roughly characterized by the terms
punkrock and hardcore we played a big role in the mp3 scene in our three
years of existence. a main concept of rH has always been the idea of a
leaderless group. decisions are met on the base of discussion, rather than
authority and hierarchy. this way of handling issues can be pretty annoying
sometimes, as it can take ages to agree on certain issues and get stuff
done. however, the occasionally lack of organisation is a sacrifice rH is
willing to make, to guarantee individual freedom and thus a relaxed
atmosphere. after all it's amazing that we've kept the machine running for
about three years this way.
recently the founder of rH left the group. that was for sure sad, but to take
this step was probably a good decision for both the group and himself.
farewell, beloved chief-munkey! besides currently undergoing some
structural changes, we are still alive and proud to put out rH release
number 5000 and further!
we know that our releases may contribute to the growing sale loss of record
companies. generally that's no big deal of course, the whining of the record
industry is pathetic and we encourage everyone to pirate their music.
unfortunately the style we release is very often put out by small,
independant labels which work on a very low-profit basis, actually dependent
on record sales. so significant loss of sales in this case doesn't mean some
rockstar is making a few million less on his latest nu-metal album than he
used to, but us loosing the opportunity to listen to good music.
therefore we ask you not to distribute this release on public sites or
peer to peer networks! please do not consider this release as a substitute
to the original, but as a way to promote new bands and check out records
before you buy them.
so we urge you to support the bands, attend their shows, buy their vinyls,
cds and tshirts. so far there's a fairly good network of underground labels
providing us with outputs from awesome bands, your ongoing support is
required to keep the scene alive!
