: Longview are the songwriting valve of 23-year old :
: singer/guitarist Rob McVey. A devotee of classical :
: guitar and piano from the age of six, Rob moved up from :
: his hometown of Winchester to study in Manchester :
: during his late teens. :

: It was here, against the fecund backdrop of :
: Manchester's Oldham Street and boho institutions such :
: as the Night & Day Cafe (adopted home of acts like :
: Haven, Alfie and Badly Drawn Boy), where he met Aidan :
: Banks (Bass) Matt Dadds (Drums) and Doug Morch :
: (Guitars) and the first seeds of the band were sown. :

: They were signed to East West Records after only their :
: fourth gig, supported Haven at London's ULU on their :
: sixth and have been granted the patronage of Radio 1 :
: and XFM even before they've released a debut single. :
: It's been that rapid. Their ambitions however, run much :
: deeper. Rob declares: "We want to make a classic :
: album...a ten track classic. One of those records that :
: just speaks out to you in only the way music can." :

: Manchester-based Longview's debut album Mercury is set :
: for a July 21 release, and will be preceded by the :
: single 'Further' on July 7 through 14th Floor records. :
: The video for Further is already on the MTV2 playlist. :
: The single is on the XFM A list, and was Jo Whiley's :
: Record Of the Week recently. :

: Mercury was recorded over the winter months with Rick :
: Parashar (Pearl Jam, Blind Melon, Alice In Chains) at :
: his studio in Seattle. With Chris Lord-Alge (The :
: Donnas, Hole, Green Day) on mixing duties. :

: Longview are currently on a mammoth series of live :
: shows. The bandÆs debut UK headline tour commenced in :
: Southampton on May 18, and sees the band covering the :
: length and breadth of the UK until July 31st, when they :
: finish the tour in London. Dissecting the barrage of :
: headline shows, was a support tour with Mull Historical :
: Society in early June, and an appearance on the NME :
: Stage of this year's T In The Park festival in July. :
: Three new dates have now been added to the tour at the :
: end of July in Glasgow, Manchester and London. :

: Longview have spent most of last year on the road, :
: supporting the likes of Athlete, Goldrush, Easyworld :
: and Gemma Hayes, and have already built a considerable :
: fanbase from these enthusiastically received warm-up :
