│ m.B.E. is the oldest 4T4-project that ever had a release. In │
│ this, he messes with all conventions, experimentation and │
│ improvisation form the basis. It's his personal love-making with │
│ music, the studies of sonics, the discovery of sound, the │
│ deepest clarity and the darkest chaos. Guestmusicians are often │
│ involved, hence the reason for the "ensemble"-name, and include │
│ re-occuring names Bart Maris, Mirko Banovic, Peter Lesage from │
│ Moiano, Mathias Van de Wiele, Jan Truyens from Massis, and │
│ occasionals such as Piet Stellamans from Fat, Tanya Sow, Nic │
│ Roseeuw, Tom Wouters, Filip Wauters from The Whodads, Jo Mahieu, │
│ Mark de Maeseneer, Lode Vercampt and Dimitri Brusselmans from │
      │ Monky Pussy. │
      │ │
│ Showcases are rare events, but m.B.E. has played memorable gigs │
│ in an always different line-up, and always mainly improvised at │
│ "Beursschouwburg",Brussels, as the final show of their │
      │ "Klinkende Munt"-festival in 1997, "Minardschouwburg",Gent, in │
│ january 2000, the opening of "Cybertheatre" in Brussels, may │
│ '97, and at the first "Le Nord Digital"-festival in L'aeronef in │
│ Lille, France (march '97) amongst others. In 1998 they did a few │
      │ shows in a consistent line-up: Mirko, Jo, Mark & 4T4. At this │
      │ moment, you can book a smaller, three-piece line-up which will │
│ only play for sitting audiences, to give opportunity to very │
      │ ambiental music. │
      │ │
      │ The first mAGIK BALLET-record was a vinyl-only single album, │
      │ containing 7 songs, holding some 46-plus minutes of music. It's │
│ called "Do you believe in magick?", and got released by "The │
│ Production Room" in 1996 (PR001). It is in stock at Kinky Star │
      │ records │
      │ │
      │ │
      │ │
│ "What do you mean" ('98), was the second album, this time │
      │ CD-only. It contains 10 songs, all hugely inspired by a │
│ cycling-trip to Portugal, including "The Hoogely Boogie", the │
│ best known m.B.E.-song so far, so check this one if you want to │
      │ hear the ensemble's sunniest side. It's a Fusebox records (the │
      │ Netherlands)-release (BoxCD1), and currently practically │
│ unavailable. Plans for quite a delayed vinyl edition are never │
      │ far away. │
      │ │
      │ │
      │ │
      │ "Cosmick Relief" ('99) was the soundtrack to a non-existant │
│ roadmovie, and the second album to be finished, but the third to │
│ be released. Its concept was to put as many different styles │
│ together as possible, mixing them up as rudely unexpected as │
│ possible; something for spacecadets everywhere; beyond the │
│ limits of listening capacity of the average musicbyer. The whole │
│ cd, since it was never on vinyl either, is in fact one 69 │
      │ minute-long song, divided into 44 i.d.'s, in order to shuffle │
│ the whole thing up for the more experienced travelers amongst │
│ us. Since it couldn't really fit in anywhere, it was released on │
│ 2 labels at the same time: Sho records from Goteborg and Kinky │
│ Star records from Gent (KS012). . 16 musicians play on it. │
      │ │
      │ │
      │ │
│ Number 4 was "Hell" (november 2000), carrying the subtitle │
│ "don't buy this". Kinky Star 30, this album was completely │
│ compiled from material gathered from 4 years of deep │
│ soulsearching and sonic exploration, and sounds like a │
│ movie-soundtrack to most. Perhaps something for those who like │
│ it dark, deep, sharp and heavy, but soothing nevertheless. 14 │
│ songs are on it, it's available on cd and double lp and might │
│ well be the most consistent m.B.E.-album so far. 4T4 himself │
      │ compares it to a Dante's Inferno-kinda-thing, in that sense that │
│ he wanted to document his vision of what hell's like. │
│ Surprisingly a lot like what our world's like sometimes, it │
      │ seems.s │
      │ │
      │ │

│ The future for mAGIK BALLET ENSEMBLE might look like anything, │
│ but whatever you expect, you'll be surprised. │

│ soup was founded in early 2002, with the intention of releasing
│ the hip-hop, trip-hop, lo-fi and turntablism that has been slept
│ on by other groups. We're a small, friendly group with a real
│ passion for our music, who're fed up of the overly competitive,
│ elitist and aggressive attitude of certain groups.
