    █    In the summer of 2000 Chris Rea was told he was suffering        █
    █    from an illness that would end his career and possibly his       █
    █    life. Whilst lying in hospital he realised that he had not       █
    █    made his final album and wanted a work that he could be          █
    █    judged on. 'Dancing Down The Stony Road' is that album.          █
    █    Following his lengthy recovery he headed off to Miraval          █
    █    Studios in Provence and set to work on what is perhaps his       █
    █    most heartfelt project to date. 'Dancing Down The Stony Road'    █
    █    is the first blues album Chrishas ever recorded ("Given          █
    █    everything that I had gone through I felt if anyone had a        █
    █    right to make a blues album it was me") and charts the roots     █
    █    of both his own musical style and the development of the         █
    █    blues from its Mississipi roots up to the industrial             █
    █    heartland of the North.                                          █
    █    "I only picked up a guitar because I heard Charley Patton.       █
    █    That's where all my soul, my heart is, where the roots of the    █
    █    music I like is. But the record companies run miles when they    █
    █    hear the word 'blues'.I won't ever do a Chicago blues record     █
    █    because Eric's written the book. So I'm left with my little      █
    █    Delta blues tunes, which record companies hate even more than    █
    █    Chicago blues - at least Chicago blues you can bash it around    █
    █    in remixes. As I shut the door to go to hospital and I knew      █
    █    it was only 50-50, the first thing that came to my head was,     █
    █    'I can't go yet, because I haven't done that record.' After      █
    █    20 bloody albums, there still isn't an album with Chris Rea,     █
    █    slide guitar player, as the main feature. So I said when I       █
    █    got out, that has to be the next record". - Chris Rea            █
