Tchaikovsky. One of my preferred composers... i wrote down
some informations for you, so you can better enjoy and
understand the tracks!
1) Tchaikovsky himself described the overture as "very
noisy" and "with no artistic merit in it", but he had been
higlhy successful in appealing to the patriotic sentiment of
the time. For anyone the red-blooded Russian Napoleon's retreat
from Moscow had been one of the most glorious events in
their nation's history and the composer used all his skills
as orchestrator to draw a realistic portrait: he used cannon
shots and an apotheosis based upon the national anthem.
2) For the Capriccio Italien and the 1812 overture
Tchaikovsky called upon melodies from folk music. He wrote
Capriccio italien while staying in Rome during winter
1879-80; the trumpet call that begins the Caprioccio was one
which the composer heard every morning from the cavalry
barracks next to his hotel.
3) The melancholy of the composer is shown in "Romeo and
Juliet". The twin themes of the play - the love between
Romeo and Juliet and the bitter feud between their families
- are crystallised in the structure of the overture, which
ends with the deaths of the lovers in one of Tchaikovsky's
most memorable inspirations.
4) The Marche Slave was written in 1876: the russian
volunteers went to fight alongside their fellow Slavs in
Serbia and Montenegro against the Turks. The composer was
asked to write a new piece for a fundraising concert. His
response was immediate: in five (5!) days he had completed
the concert, using three Serbian folk tunes, as well as the
Tsarist national anthem. It's a very patriotic componiment.
Do not abuse the benefits you have being in the scene! An
original CD is always better than a ripped one! Buying an
original album you support those good artists who bring us
