▐▓▌▐█▌ forming in 1995 but splitting up soon after. In the interim, ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ creative force Numinas released two acclaimed albums under ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ the moniker Krohm. He has since reformed Vetus Obscurum, ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ bringing in dual vocalists Herb Burke (Drawn and Quartered) ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ and Mike Nihilist (Abazagorath). On this demo, Blood ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ Revelations, the band plays a rather standard and oft-trod ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ form of raw black metal, decent enough for the demo format ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ but rarely anything more. ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ If you are even a moderate fan of underground black metal, ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ Blood Revelations includes a style which you have undoubtedly ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ heard many times before. The dual vocals ape the cavernous ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ style of modern USBM; chord progressions seem lifted from ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ 1990's Norway; the mid-tempo sections have Burzum and ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ Darkthrone written all over them; and the blasts and tremolo ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ riffs are straight out of the Black Metal 101 textbook. On ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ one hand, listening to Vetus Obscurum feels like an old ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ friendship, comfortable and easy to settle into, but on the ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ other, it is like a shallow, lesser version of that ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ relationship, lacking the depth and meaning of the glory ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ days. Higher quality moments are strewn throughout these four ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ songs, such as the mid-tempo sections of ôVetus Obscurum,ö ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ the smatterings of lead guitar, or the atmospheric section in ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ the title track, but it never really molds together into ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ anything particularly memorable. Furthermore, several parts ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ seem to drag on, killing the momentum brought on by the few ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ truly interesting passages. ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ Blood Revelations leaves such a shallow imprint that it ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ garners neither a blessing nor an all-out damning. Fans of ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ the style will find it inoffensive and occasionally ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ enjoyable, but theyÆll be hard pressed to remember one riff ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ five minutes later. While having some of the tools necessary ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ for black metal success, Vetus Obscurum lack in both ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ individuality and songwriting refinement. Failing to gain ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ these traits in the future will lead to an existence ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ wallowing in the aggregate muck of barely-above-average black ▐█▌▐▓▌
▐▓▌▐█▌ metal ▐█▌▐▓▌
