Live on Proton Radio (www.protonradio.com):
Gareth Cheshire:
Having acquired turntables at the tender age of 16 it
took 4 long years before Gareth found a sound he was
comfortable with.
As if by chance Gareth stumbled upon a copy of the 6400
crew E.P on Yoshi-Toshi in mid 2000. What lay in the
grooves of this 12" were to have a momentous effect on
him, dropping the progressive house that had gone before
for the heads-down deep sound of west coast house which
has since grown into a hybrid of sounds covering diverse
paths such as deep house, tech house, techno and Mexican
electronica known as Nortec.
Having secured gigs around his native land and a
residency in his home city of Liverpool, numerous radio
mixes under his belt at home and worldwide via the
growing medium of internet radio and a tour of the USA
scheduled for 2003, Cheshire is surely one to watch over
the months and years to come.
August 2002 saw Gareth handed a monthly show on Proton
Radio entitled 'Bonus Beats'.
The success of his Featured Artist set in May lead to
him being given the opportunity to share his music to
the world on a regular basis as well as inviting some of
his favourite DJs and producers to take part. Lined up
for 2003 are NYC's Onionz & Master D, Amsterdam based DJ
Jerome, Dick 'Magic' Johnson, King Britt and Shaboom
Records new boy Chris Spect.
Texas-based Proton Radio easily holds the largest
listening figures of any specialist dance station on the
web with Bonus Beats regularly raking in over 400
listeners per month.
x-tended:studio was set up in November 2002 to provide a
home for Gareth's musical output which has so far
brought the world organic drum & bass in the form of
Deep Rumble , Toxteth Rumbler (Oh Yeah) currently
available as a free download from mp3.com.

Maya Amack:
Growing up in a versatile musical enviroment in New
York, listening to anything from Beethoven to Led
Zeppelin, one is bound to become involved in music. This
was the case for Maya who, in the early 90's got her
first taste of dance music when a friend from the UK
sent her a mixtape of music from the ravescene that was
taking over the UK at the time.Hooked on this electronic
music for years she listened to acts such as the now
legendary Orbital, Leftfield to name but a few. Her
first club experience was at a 'cheesy club on Disney
property' but Maya was hooked on the vibe!
Now firmly rooted in Orlando, Florida she has been
spinning for less than two years but has formed an
eclectic style from dub to progressive house and all
thats in between. You can catch Maya occasionally on
protonradio.com and airpeace.nl.She recently showcased
her skills at the Lime Bar,Miami during the Winter Music
Conference making a smooth transition from bedroom to
rocking the dancefloor!!

Shadi Megallaa
If there was any notion that music is not a globally
uniting force, this DJ would prove it otherwise.
Born in Cairo, Egypt, this 24 yr old was raised in Abu
Dhabi, on the shores of the Persian Gulf. With not much
inspiration anywhere at hand, Shadi remembers that he
"first got introduced to electronic music when I was 14.
when my friend's older brother went to study in London
and he'd bring back tapes of Drum N Bass shows that he'd
been to". A couple of years later he came across a
double cd entitled 'Northern Exposure' mixed by Dj's
Sasha & John Digweed. Shadi recalls "being blown away by
the complexity of musical layering" and that he finally
became fully immersed in playing music upon his move to
Lawrence, Kansas in 1997. He purchased a pair of decks
at the age of 19 while studying architecture at the
University of Kansas.
"My musical influences generally included Bob Marley,
Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, George
Clinton, Depeche Mode, INXS, U2, BB King, Sade, and LTJ
Bukem. Yet i started spinning progressive then, before i
moved to more tribally stuff & tech house."
"Djs that have influenced me since then have been Sasha,
Digweed, Howells, Terry Francis, Grant Dell, Craig
Richards, Lee Burridge, Tyler Stadius, and the Chug
boys: Ali Ajami. Genie and Sari."
Shadi has now returned to the UAE to complete his degree
after having already played gigs in the USA, Egypt &
France. A regular resident at misdxb's 'Subsistence' &
Ohm records' 'Mixology' events, he is the latest
addition to Montreal's FRiGiDsound music network.
Shadi is a musical ambassador attempting to push the
sound of tech-house as far as it will go. "My main focus
other than making & playing music lies in trying to
educate the people in this region about underground
music and pushing the tech house sound. Im trying to
support other local Djs and have also started the
Vibrant Sounds messageboard to push electronic music in
the Middle East region, you can visit it through the
ezboard network"
Having already showcased his 'Less Is More' mix on
Proton Radio, Shadi is back as Gareth Cheshire's guest
on Bonus Beats.
For any of you who are unfamiliar, he explains: "I
ideally like to play long sets and cover the entire
musical spectrum. Starting with an ambient or downtempo
vibe then moving to minimal tech house with clicks and
bleeps, and gradually build it to quirky tech. Always
staying groovy before a final stretch of dirty and
filthy breaks."
The future is very bright for this pro-active talent.
Having started his own productions in 2001, new material
by Shadi will surface very soon as he continues his
focus on himself, his aspiration to start his own record
label and, more importantly, his focus for UAE music
scene in general.
